Save the Children and Civil Society Nutrition Alliance (CSONA) Engages Parliamentary Committee on Nutrition

Save the Children in collaboration with the Civil Society Nutrition Alliance (CSONA) on Wednesday, 17 June 2015 engaged members of the Parliamentary HIV/AIDS and Nutrition Committee over dinner to sensitise them on the nutrition situation in Malawi and rally their support towards addressing alarming rates of malnutrition in the country.

World Day Against Child Labour 2015: No to Child Labour, Yes to Quality Education

The theme of this year’s commemoration of the World Day against Child Labour is “No to child labour, yes to quality education” This theme highlights the importance of basic education in the elimination of child labour.

In an agro based society such as Malawi where children start farming at a tender age, children are even more at risk of going into child labour and get exposed to hazardous work conditions. When children of school going age are not in school, where are they?

Sponsorship-Adolescent Development Prepares Estelle towards her Growth

Estelle discovered something about herself after joining Save the Children’s, Adolescent Development (AD) programme early last year – she realised that she was becoming an adolescent girl. When she is not playing a game of netball with her friends or doing chores at home like most girls in her community, she spends a lot of time at the AD programme. In her school group, she holds the position of chairperson, which mainly puts her in charge of organising members.

Save the Children Honors Best Reporters in MNH

Save the Children, during this year’s The National Media Institute of Southern Africa (NAMISA Awards, honored its pledge by awarding two best reporters in Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH). The two awards came under the best MNH reporter for print and electronic. The two awards went to Watipaso Mzungu of Nations Publications and Rachel Mhango of Times TV respectively. Each of the winners was given a state of the art Samsung galaxy tab and a shield curtesy of the Bill and Melinda Gates funded Saving New Born Live project.

Malawi Celebrates International Day of the Midwife: Pictorial

Save the Children joined several organisations in celebrating this year’s International Day of the Midwife, which was held on 5th May 2015 at Lunzu Primary School ground. The event drew together midwives from all corners of the country where they showcased some of their initiatives in their work.  The guest of honor at this year’s event was the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. M Magwira. The theme for this year’s event was Midwife; For the Better Tomorrow.
