International Literacy Day: Nutrition and Literacy, Two Lanes on the Same Highway to Sustained Development

Reading and writing—they seem like very simple skills, don’t they? If you are reading this you have probably answered yes but 775 million people will disagree with you. These are the people that according to current global statistics lack minimum literacy skills.

September 8th is international day of literacy. It is a day that serves to remind the world about the importance of literacy, its status today and how that consequently affects our society.

2015 Race for Survival: Save the Children Collaborates with the Mount Mulanje Porters’ Race

This year’s Race for Survival saw Save the Children’s global event find its way to the scenic, Likhubula Valley in Mulanje District, towered over by Malawi’s breathtaking, Mulanje Mountain. The event on Saturday, July 11th partnered with the annual Mount Mulanje Porters’ Race, the renowned Lake of Stars festival and NBS Bank as the main sponsor – as well as other partners. With the partners hailing from different backgrounds the event was sure to amass significant publicity – bringing together over 2500 people, plus generating national spotlight thanks to the media present.

Save the Children Commemorates Day of the African Child in Chikwawa

Save the Children joined the Malawi Government and stakeholders in organising, supporting and commemorating the 2015 Day of the African Child which annually falls on 16th June. Malawi commemorated the day on 30th June 2015 under the theme “Accelerating our collective efforts in ending child marriages as we launch the National Plan of Action for Vulnerable Children.”

Fight Against Child Labour Gaining Ground: Commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labour

Government has been called upon to start enforcing the new Education Law including making sure that education is compulsory in Malawi.

The call was made last Friday by the Director for Child Protection and Child Poverty for Save the Children International, Stanley Phiri in Ntchisi District during the Commemoration of 2015 World Day Against Child Labour.
