Save the Children Attends the 2015 Mother's Day Fun Run
On 17th October 2015, Save the Children participated in the 2015 Mother’s Day Fun Run organized by Nation Publications Limited (NPL). The race has been running since 2005, with the purpose of enhancing safe motherhood in Malawi – particularly with support of neonatal healthcare equipment to the Government. As part of its social responsibility, NPL uses funds and donations accumulated from this occasion to assist hospitals and health centers in need around the country. This year, Mchinji district was chosen due its high rate of maternal deaths and its deficiency in neonatal equipment – as compared to other parts of the central region. The race started at Kamwendo Trading Center and ended at the district hospital – approximately a 30km route! This year drew the involvement of partners from a range of sectors including UNFPA, UNDP, Standard Bank and the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA). Save the Children donated Oxygen Concentrators and Pulse Oximeters to Mchinji district hospital. Below is a photo story of the day’s events.
